Ongoing and Past Research

In the CollabLab, I am currently researching the impact of AI technologies on blind and low-vision (BLV) individuals. I'm especially interested in workarounds used by the community to make AI tools better suit their needs.

At the Center for Democracy and Technology on the Disability Rights and Tech Policy Project, I'm working on a privacy by design manual for assistive technology developers. This ties into my broader interests in tech policy/advocacy and privacy.

Through a grant from the Kaplan Public Humanities Institute at Northwestern and collaboration with San Diego Writers Ink, I launched the Reimagined AI website and workshop series focusing on using speculative fiction to engage creative writers in AI ethics topics. I also published the "Reimagined AI Vol. 1" anthology of speculative fiction.

During my MS in Computational Media at UC Santa Cruz, I worked in the ASSIST Lab to develop and evaluate socioemotional VR games for preteens with cleft lip and/or palate and children/adults with autism.

While attending UC Davis for my BS in Electrical Engineering, I created BRight (Breathe Right), a wearable device to help people detect and improve their breathing patterns using an accelerometer.
